In the first six months of this year alone - from January to June 2005 - the German Federation against Copyright Theft (Gesellschaft zur Verfolgung von Urheberrechtsverletzungen e.V., GVU) confiscated 290,550 bootleg copies of films, and initiated more than 1,300 new criminal cases. With the support and assistance of GVU investigators, the police also searched an additional 1,006 homes and offices.


Three years without parole for a movie thief: This sentence was recently handed down by the State Court in Frankfurt.


16,500 euros was the fine given to a movie thief from Giessen, Germany, for selling pirated films on eBay. The final sentence is still pending.


371,194 illegal CDs and DVDs were confiscated by the GVU between January and September, 2004.
